Alan Jacob won the 1st prize at the Gallery of Rheology (2018 SOR) with this image below:

Eye of Sauron: Gallium is a liquid metal that form a highly elastic native oxide skin. The oxide skin surrounds the liquid metal leading to creases on the air liquid metal interface. A high energy Concentric Backscattering Detector (CBS) is used to obtain an electron microscopy image which captures a highly contrast image of the wrinkles present on the air-liquid metal interface. The crinkles resemble flames when false colored is applied. This image indicates the rich interfacial phenomenon of liquid metals which is yet to be properly understood.

Daniel Cardenas stitched this image of an organohydrogel fiber containing thermoresponsive nanoemulsions.
